Opening Sequences Analysis

OPENING SEQUENCE

The first shot of Coraline shows a few credits including Production Company (Focus Features), who presented the film and who its in association. The fact these credits are at the beginning of the film shows that they are classed as the most important and deserve the most recognition.
The second shot includes a button that is extremely significant to the film and unusual singing begins.
The third shot is of the first casting credit, after this is a few more main character voice actors are shown in the same style. The order of the casting relates to who is most featured in the film to the least.
The fourth shot is where credits begin to overlap the animation with more showing at a time. The music also becomes more delicate which reflects the idea of a roll being childish and innocent.
The fifth shot shows credits including the "art directors" with soft singing in the background.
The sixth shot shows the doll with its button eyes taken off, this idea is significant within the film and also intrigues the audience as it is unusual.
The seventh shot shows the editors of the animation.
In the eighth shot the background music suits the action of the metal mechanisms controlling what happens to the doll.
The ninth shot of the new doll leaving the room includes the credits "written for the screen and directed by Henry Selick". The soundtrack music eventually comes to an end with a peculiar atmosphere.

Music

The soundtrack music over the opening sequence is eerie which creates suspense and it ranges in speed which mimicks the events within the film. Throughout the film itself, the soundtrack is extremely unusually beautiful with music written by BRUNO COULAIS. But even the music intrigues the audience, not just by the animation and its aesthetic.
